Crime is a six-part drama based on the 2008 novel of the same name by Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh, who also adapted his work for the screen. The story follows Dougray Scott as lead detective and troubled addict DI Ray Lennox, who is looking into the disappearance of a 13-year-old girl.

"I'm more excited about Crime than anything I've done in a while," said Welsh. "It just seems to me to be so different from so much of the stuff that I've seen."

Scott described Welsh's work as "brutal, traumatising, upsetting and deplorable in every sense of the word, but at the same time there's wonderful tenderness within the characters that Irvine just produces", adding: "He has this incredible ability to emotionalise a subject like this so that it's accessible."
